trees

"To sit in the shade on a fine day and look upon verdure is the most perfect refreshment."
- Jane Austen

reluctantly dragged myself outta bed early this morning. all because summer woke me up and spring wanted to have breakfast at 8am. spring had her company's sports day today...

what i did not anticipate was that i would leave the house from 8am and only get back at 4.30pm.

after breakfast, summer and i followed spring to her sports day at FRIM - Forest Research Institute Malaysia. to watch spring play badminton... mixed doubles... in the AFTERNOON!

it's been a very long time since i last went to FRIM. think it was since primary school... can hardly remember the place at all. but what delighted me most was the sight of rows and rows of tall green leafy trees!!!

i know this sounds mad but trees make me happy...

"I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do."
- Willa Cather, 1913

well... after enduring this past week, to a point where i almost just wanted to break down and cry, i deserved to be made happy... =P

"Deep in the sun-searched growths the dragonfly
Hangs like a blue thread loosened from the sky."
- Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Silent Noon

and there were dragonflies flying around!!!
i don't know what's with my recent fascination with dragonflies but they make me happy too... *grins*

anyways, sitting there by the football field watching guys from spring's firm play football and having an ice-cream was a welcome break. it was boring, yes, but it relaxed me. the trees, the breeze, the sounds of the insects... nature... and spring and summer...

thank god for the trees!!!

"I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree."
- Joyce Kilmer, "Trees," 1914
