mysterious doorbell ringer and random selection...

it was a lazy hot afternoon. baby woke up from his peaceful slumber. guess he didn't sleep enough for he started to kick up a fuss over nothing. cried and cried and nothing seems to work. not even playing his favourite game of puff would do. not even barney could pacify him. not even jojo either. offering him sweet or chocolate or raisins or biscuits wouldn't stop his crying and asking for something noone could understand. not even his 'zutzut' (pacifier) would stop him. he just kept throwing his zutzut away and cry for it back...

"dingdong"

mum picked baby up from the kitchen floor and carried him into the living room to look out of the sliding door to see who had rung the doorbell. by the time we reached the kitchen table, we heard the sound of someone crying and dogs barking loudly. the thought that crossed my mind was that "oh the lil'boy next door must be crying" whereas for mum, "someone's beating the dogs!!!"

when mum reached for the curtains at the sliding door, we heard the sound of a motorbike revving and immediately saw 2 men on a motorbike riding by quickly. mum yelled "SNATCH THIEF!" and dad opened the gate outside and everyone went out to see what had happened. including baby who was previously kicking up a big fuss. now he's quiet. almost everyone along the street was out or coming out of their house.

two houses away were two ladies. and they were the center of attention. one of them just had her handbag snatched away by the two indonesian guys on the motorbike. she said that one of them was holding a knife with a blade of about 20cm long. her fren had been holding a hammer but did not use it. neighbours were coming out and everyone was coming to see what had happened.

apparently, those 2 men were already hanging around the road. acting kinda suspicious. they were wearing all black and the front of the motorbike had no number plate. they had ridden up the street once. the man of the house opposite had been outside his house but was chopping down a tree with a parang. probbly they had seen him and his parang and were afraid to strike for fear of his parang. they rode back down the street. the parang man saw them and thought of warning his wife not to come out and so he went back in the house. and that was when the 2 men came riding back up. and snatched the lady's handbag.

another neighbour had earlier driven past them in his car not long before the incident. he said that he had saw them hiding at the corner of the street. yet another neighbour from the middle of the street came walking all the way up to say that he had saw them ride past, ride back down and right in front of his house made a u-turn and went back up, and then came speeding past once more.

when it happened, the dogs were barking and not only that, one of the dogs, a white one with extremely huge privates, who nobody seems to own but has a collar, was barking and chasing the men. and while everyone was sharing their stories and listening too, i was puzzling over who had rang our doorbell. for when we looked out, there was no one at all! except for the sight of the 2 men speeding away on their motorbike and the big privates dog. asked around but everyone denied ringing our doorbell. not only that, nobody saw who rang our doorbell! spoooky!!!

there must be an explanation for it. but there is none. it's as if the doorbell rang to warn us of the impending snatch but we were just too slow in responding.

anyways, a few days later, in the papers was a report about a woman who died after her handbag was snatched from her and she had fallen and fractured her skull.

and then there was this photo in the paper on sunday showing a 56 year old lady holding on to her handbag whilst a skinny man sat on the pavement begging her. he was begging her to let him go after he was caught and beaten up by some coffeeshop customers. he had punched the lady on her mouth when she refused to let go of her handbag. but she screamed and held on long enough for the customers at a coffeeshop nearby to come to her aid.

makes u wonder what the world is coming to. whether the police is doing their jobs right...
nowadays just walking out of my house to go into my car involves my mum escorting me. if mum is busy then it would my sisters. or dad. even when coming back home. it's scary and it's a horrible feeling. one should feel safe in front of their own house... but i don't. i just don't.

anyways, enough about snatch thieves...

december 1st was my first day at work at this law firm. a huge part of me was reluctant to go to work that morning. it spelt the end of my freedom and the start of a whole new world and life. besides, it's such an unforgivable hour to wake me up!!! but then, as much as i would LOVE to stay in bed and sleep in longer, i had my priorities and i got up all the same.

work starts at 8.45am... don't ask me why such a weird time. i don't know really! and it's kinda located on the way down to kl so not knowing if there would be a traffic congestion, i started off early. 7.50am! i know! it's too darn early! but it was my first day of work and i didn't want to get in late.

yeah... i ended up getting there at 8.10am! hell... there was no congestion!

anyways, work so far is kinda alrights. i still havta drag myself out of bed every morning. other than that, well, the other chambering students there are cool... they're really nice. generally the firm is really huge... so i havnt had the chance to meet all the partners just yet. or all the lawyers. all even recognise or know anyone's name for that matter! i still kinda get lost in the office. it's like a maze!!!
been doing research and i feel as if i'm submitting a coursework. but it's interesting and irritating and boring all rolled into one. intellectual property law and agrobiotechnology. sounds tough eh? it IS! and today i did a bit of translation work... translating from BM to ENGLISH an old malay news article and several documents.

oh and another thing, to get work i have to take the directory to randomly pick a lawyer to call and ask for work!!! hahahha!!! it feels weird at first, but it's like that... cos otherwise no work would come because the firm's huge and they don't really know that i exist as of yet. imagine this conversation...

"hello... may i speak to mr/ms so & so?"
"speaking?"
"hie, i'm dilys. i'm the new chambering student. and i was wondering if u have any work for me to do cos i am so free right now i'm bored."
"ohh... hie. unfortunately i don't really have much right now but i'll remember u and when i have anything i'll look for u?"
"oh, ok. i'm in level B chambering room btw."
"okays. see u then. bye"
"bye."

...and then repeat it for another few more times until u hit a lawyer who has work for u. sounds really odd right???

but soon... when they realise that there's another NEW chambering student, the work will start pouring in. i've even been booked for work by the banking & finance dept for next month!!! BOOKED!!! *lol*

urgh... it's late. time to get ready for bed. tomoro's gonna be a long day...
